Appledore

An Ancient Tradition

Picture
The Shire of Appledore is part of the worldwide medieval and Renaissance recreationist group, the Society for Creative Anachronism. It is currently part of the Principality of Tir Righ within the Kingdom of An Tir.

The Shire of Appledore was created in 1980 as part of the Kingdom of An Tir. Appledore is based in the South Okanagan and Similkameen valleys, Boundary and West Kootenays of south-central BC. and claims members from Princeton, east to Nelson, BC. Appledore is noted for its hospitality, humour, and small-town atmosphere.

Appledore once claimed territory all the way to North Pole, and south as far as Soap Lake, Washington! As the SCA has grown and more groups have formed, Appledore has gotten smaller, and is now based in small towns along the Canada-US border. In spite of its isolation, since 1984, Appledore has hosted an event of international recognition, the Tournament of the Golden Swan.

Do something once and it's a tradition; do something twice, it's an ancient tradition! Do something for thirty years, and it becomes a part of people's lives. For many people, Golden Swan has become an annual marker in the SCA, the last outdoor (or almost-outdoor) event of the year before tourney season ends, and the indoor season begins.

We hope to see you soon in the Shire of Appledore!
